Here’s how Jada Pinkett Smith described her ongoing battle with hair loss in the most recent episode of the Facebook series.
It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That’s why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it.
As seen in the episode which dropped yesterday afternoon, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that this battle has been especially difficult for her because her hair is “a big part of me.” Jada Pinkett Smith believes having hair is a “beautiful ritual” and she is concerned about whether or not she will have a choice for what she can do with it in the future. While Jada utilizes a variety of methods and styles to work with her hair loss, the actress is still left unsure why she is losing the hair in the first place. Jada Pinkett Smith admits she has been visiting doctors to determine why she might be losing her hair, and so far, she hasn’t been able to find any concrete answers. Here’s what Jada Pinkett Smith had to say when elaborating on her condition.
I’ve gotten every kind of test there is to have. They don’t know why. People say stress. People say, ‘Oh, you know, you do have alopecia.’ Even in my terror, even in my fear, and in a moment of just going, ‘Oh, my God, like, why are you so terrified that you might lose your hair?’ I really had to put it in a spiritual perspective of, like, the higher power takes so much from people… I watch the higher power take things every day. And by golly, if the higher power wants to take your hair. That’s it? God, you want my hair? When I look at it from that perspective, it really did settle me… Take it.
Jada Pinkett Smith also believes wearing the turban is an empowering experience. It helps liberate her during this difficult time in her life. Here’s how she explained it.
When my hair is wrapped, I feel like a queen… A lot of people have been asking why I’ve been wearing turbans. Well, I haven’t talked about it. It’s not easy to talk about, but I am going to talk about it.
